THE CYCLES DON’T STOP
2018
The Looking Glass Gallery, Boone NC

I find it both comforting and unsettling to know that the cycles are infinite. The rise and fall of each day, the routines, my thoughts and actions, my fears and dreams: there’s a rhythm to it all.

There is darkness and lightness in all my cycles. Light dwells in a well of shadows, sharp and soft shapes twist and turn and shimmy through space trying to find their way. Other forms envelop, calm, or frame the darkness. The dance between light and shadow force shape and form to play, fight, push, pull, twist and bleed into one another. In other words, they all messily exist together. The lights shinee brighter because of the darker moments; the darks are more compelling when the light reaches them.

Mysterious enough to evade complete understanding yet present enough to be felt, the cycles are always there. These paintings represent cycles that are always there lingering, shifting, growing and becoming. They represent an exploration of how emotions flow through me and take shape. They represent an infinite force of nature within the confines of a canvas.
